3 Helpful Tips To Fix Your Alloy Wheel In Melbourne

Those who have experienced car troubles in the past know just how difficult it can be to find the right service to fix your alloy wheel related problems in the Melbourne area. While the prospect of attempting to repair an alloy wheel on your own might seem daunting to the average Melbourne resident, we are here to offer you a helpful guide of handy tips to use the next time you have difficulties.

The following three areas need to be explored by alloy wheel owners from Melbourne and by reading on to learn more, you can avoid the same problems that tend to strike those who are less prepared for the inevitable issues that are bound to come their way.

Oxidation Removal

Oxidation is one of the primary problems that keeps an alloy wheel from looking and functioning at its best and you need to make certain changes to your maintenance regimen to keep it from happening to you. The wheels will collect dirt and dust over their lifespan and when this dust and dirt is not properly cleared away, oxidation tends to take place far more frequently than usual.

When you are trying to remove oxidation damage from the wheel, it is important to use an acid based cleaner to counteract with the oxygen. It is also in your best interests to remove the rims from the vehicle, so that the acid does not have a chance to cause any further damages to other areas of the car. If you have any further concerns about the acid based cleaner, feel free to dilute it with water.

Unsightly Scuff Marks

These marks are typically unavoidable and while you can rely on a repair shop to assist you in their removal, it can be much easier to handle them on your own. All you need is a little bit of paint thinner and a bowl to start with. Pour some of the thinner into the bowl and grab a tack cloth to use as a means of spreading the thinner onto the scuffs.

After lightly buffing the scuffs, some wet 240 grit sandpaper can be used to further remove them. A sponge and some scratch filler putty is then utilized to fill in the areas that have already been sanded. Once the putty has dried, 400 grit sandpaper is your best for sanding over the putty. You will know that the project has gone according to plan when the formerly scuffed areas feel smooth to the touch and all of the bumps are gone.

Bent Wheels

This is a task that you may wish to allow a professional to assist you with, but if you are comfortable using a blowtorch? You can take the tire off of the car, use a pry bar to separate the wheel and heat the damaged area for a period of three minutes on the lowest setting. From there, place a wooden board behind the damaged area and hammer against it while the wheel is still hot, so that it has ample opportunity to be popped back into place.
